What can I say about food? I eat to live and I live to eat: hence the junk in the trunk ;-)

As long as I can remember I have loved food. Never had trouble finishing my plate, loved everything (and still do). My grandfather used to say ”Ikrem enna3ma” which translates as ‘Honor your food’. I’ve always learned never to throw away anything and to always finish my plate.
My  mother honors her food so much that she ALWAYS uses yesterdays leftovers in todays soup; without exception and it’s always good; It’s an art!(even when those leftovers are pancakes...just kiddin')
My favorite dish as a kid was a Tunisian dish called ‘leblebbi’, which consists of bread, chickpeas, harissa and lemon (all of them cheap and always available). Back then it was known as the poor mans dish; but me and my sister (still) love it! 

Here's a recipe:
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 can (15 oz.) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 4 slices (about 1/2-in. thick) country bread, torn into bite-size pieces, or day old bread
  • 1/4 cup chopped capers (optional)
  • 1 tsp. freshly ground cumin (optional)
  • 1 to 4 tsp. harissa
Bring broth to a boil in a medium saucepan.
Add chickpeas and escarole and reduce heat to medium-high.
Cook, stirring occasionally, until escarole wilts and is tender.
Keep warm over low heat.
Divide bread evenly among 4 soup or pasta plates.
Top with chickpea mixture.
Garnish with capers, cumin, and harissa as you like.
You could also put a poached egg or tuna in it
